It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

We've got summer covered!

I know Christmas is still a way off yet but with the postie regularly stopping at our mailbox, filling it up with entries for our poetry competition, it’s every bit as exciting!

For entry details click on the Poetry Competition heading just below the fern on the home page.

And in today’s post a special treat – a copy of the summer braille edition of Poems in the Waiting Room. Lyvie from the RNZFB is sending copies to their offices in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill, Hamilton and Napier.  RNZFB members are welcome to pick up these poetry booklets and take them home to keep at no cost.  Members who don’t live in any of the above areas are welcome to contact the RNZFB National Office and request a copy in either contracted or uncontracted braille. Copies are also going to Homai Special Formats Library in Manuwera and the Wellington office of Association of Blind Citizens.

A huge thanks to Creative New Zealand for their generous funding grant which has allowed the summer braille edition to be transcribed, printed and bound.

OK back to writing your Christmas shopping lists!!

  1. Came to visit from Kay M. Cooke’s blog…the poems in waiting rooms is a truly inspired idea…and then to have it in Braille also…excellent!

Thanks Theanne. The Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind have been so supportive it’s made the whole process relatively simple, from my perspective! Interest and money permitting, we’re hoping to provide the Braille edition every season.

And wouldn’t it be great to read a poem in a future edition of PitWR written by a sight-impaired poet…

  4. ruth arnison says:

Yeh, we’re happy to consider poems from all members of the community.
